I recently rediscovered this blog site, which I created almost 3 years ago, and I’ve been busy all day revamping it. My original intent with this blog was to share my photographic experiences and travels, then post links to the blog on my Facebook photography page Andrea Kappler Photography. My hopes are that I can still find a way to use this blog to share my photographic adventures, as well as promote my nature and fine art photography business.
Speaking of photography businesses, I now have two online stores where I’m selling my images. The older site is Fine Art America – Andrea Kappler. The newer site is Andrea Kappler Photography, which is hosted on the Zenfolio platform. I maintain both sites and add new content to each of them, because they each have different products and different consumer markets. Please stop by both shops and take a look at what they have to offer. I hope you’ll find something that catches your eye!
Since writing my original blog post, I’ve grown substantially in my photographic knowledge. I’ve learned how to photograph the Milky Way, I’ve improved my compositional skills, I’ve done some portrait and newborn photography (for family/friends), and I’ve used Blurb to produce a keepsake photographic yearbook for my daughter’s college gymnastics team.
Last March I attended the ShutterFest photography conference in St. Louis, MO, which was a fantastic networking and learning opportunity. I’m still working to implement everything I learned in my 3 days there. When it comes to revamping my software, I’ve moved away from using a stand-alone installation of Adobe Elements 13. I’m now using the Adobe Creative Cloud platform, which was the best move I’ve ever made for improving how I edit my images.
I’ve also greatly expanded my collection of camera equipment, lenses, and related gear. In the last year, I’ve purchased a second DSLR camera (a refurbished Canon 5D MIII), a used carbon fiber tripod (a Gitzo GT2541EX), and several new lenses (including a Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 fisheye lens). I now use the Spider camera holster system to keep my camera and an additional lens right at my hips.
Last June I discovered on Facebook three local photography groups in Evansville, Indiana. Since joining those groups, I’ve met dozens of wonderful, supportive photographers both online and in person. The photographers in these groups range from hobbyists to professionals. We share pictures, technical expertise, and advice on cameras/gear. And best of all, we get together frequently for photo walks or meet-and-greets.
Rediscovering and revamping this site fits in with my overall path with my photography, which is to rediscover photographic opportunities and continually revamp my skills and knowledge. I hope you’ll continue along with me on my photographic journey.
